Over the weekend of the 21st-23rd September 2018, Masterclass Sports Tours held a GSA Netball tournament at Condover Hall, Shrewsbury.
The event, played across two venues (Condover Hall and Shrewbury Sports Village) was a resounding success, with 20 GSA schools in attendance and 40 teams participating across two age groups. We welcomed 378 girls to Condover Hall and they were accompanied by a total of 55 members of staff.
Despite the poor weather forecast, all scheduled games were played and the sun even appeared just in time for the highly competitive finals! Congratulations to St Paul’s Girls School and Putney High School for winning the Year 8 and 9 tournaments respectively.
We were extremely fortunate to have Commonwealth Gold Medalist Eboni Beckford-Chambers join us for the duration of the weekend. She held an insightful Q&A session for the girls on Friday evening, where she also passed around her medal and took a whole group selfie! On Saturday afternoon Eboni led a ‘Coach the Coach’ session, where teachers came along to collect as much new information on tactics, training and matchplay as possible. Eboni was extremely impressed with the standard of play across both locations throughout the weekend and was there to present the awards to the winners of all the Year 9 events. A big thank you goes to Eboni for all of her work across the weekend.
Both competitions had 20 teams, which meant that on Saturday the teams played nine, 14 minute matches. This separated them into the Trophy, Cup and Plate which were played across the Sunday in ever changing weather conditions.
As well as netball, the girls took part in a range of different activities over the weekend from abseiling to aerial trek and climbing to conquest. All the teams left on time after a fun but exhausting weekend.
