Spain Report October 2018

October Half Term 2018 saw the descendance of 6 schools in the vibrant town of Salou for their highly anticipated Masterclass Sports Tours. Spread over two weeks and hosted in two hotels, 215 eager students played Football, Netball, Tennis, Athletics and Hockey across multiple local venues. They were accompanied by 27 teachers, 12 sports staff and predominantly dazzling sunshine!

Week 1 consisted of 3 groups: Appleton, South Hampstead and Devonshire House Prep School! Appleton and Devonshire House brought Football & Netball teams whilst South Hampstead brought one team of girls who played Football, Netball, Athletics and Tennis – talk about a versatile bunch! There was one Football Tournament and two Netball tournaments, of which Appleton boys, Appleton girls and Devonshire girls walked away deservingly holding the almighty winners trophies! The boys teams also battled it out at fixtures against local opposition, UD Salou & La Selva Del Camp, and even brought home the gold!

The Monday and Thursday excursion days were a huge hit with the thrill seekers and curious explorers as both Appleton and Devonshire House took turns to visit Port Aventura Theme Park and the classic Nou Camp Stadium, home of Barcelona FC, whilst South Hampstead opted for more sports, followed by a much needed time out by the beach. The schools also enjoyed Bingo, Karaoke and a Masterclass Disco as evening entertainment at the hotel!

Week 2 got off to a promising start with another set of 3 groups in resort; Abraham Darby, St Teresa’s and Streatham and Clapham School - all housed by the eye-catching Salou Park I hotel! All groups brought mainly Netball teams, with the exception of Streatham and Clapham which also attended with one Hockey Squad! Thus, the only fixtures this week were Hockey, near Barcelona both nights, bringing a loss and the win back home! The netball tournament ran nearly to the minute and was a huge success, with two separate competitions taking place over three courts. Well done to Streatham & Clapham A team and St Teresa’s B team for coming out on top!

The Monday and Thursday Excursions were a little different this week as everyone ascended to the very unusually windy Port Aventura Park on the first day. Following on from this, various mini trips occurred. From the High Ropes at Bosque Aventura, Bowling and Hard Rock Café meal for St Teresa’s to the Aquarium for Streatham and Clapham and The Hop-on Hop-Off bus in Barcelona for Abraham Darby, the groups had lots to keep them busy! This week too saw the evening entertainment come into full swing, with Bingo, Karaoke and a Masterclass Disco taking place in the hotel.
